03/07: BSLS ARTICLE
Backseat Lovestory has only been together for a bit over a year now, but their track record doesn’t show it. Landing shows at venues such as Club Diesel, Mr. Smalls Theater, and Pittsburgh’s 2008 Warped Tour is no small feat, and BSLS surely has the talent to book bigger. Releasing “Take the Hit” in November 2007, Backseat has risen through the ranks of local bands with songs such as “Harmonic Lullaby”, “Lucky Give Me My Charms”, and “Wait, Wait, Hurry.” Fortunately, we here at Pitt Underground had the chance to go see these local rock stars and exchange a witty phrase or two with the guys.
Imagine walking into your local Hot Topic. Usually there is some sort of growling and crunching music blasting over the speaker system loud enough to turn away anyone over the age of 30, destroy any eardrum within a hundred yards, and make small children cry uncontrollably. Now picture my pleasant surprise as I walked into the Monroeville mall Hot Topic to hear the sweet sounds of BSLS pumping on the speakers. Walking around the mall, there was not one skinny-jean clad person that didn’t know about the show, and most of them were headed that way to get up close anyways.
After a brief rumble with the “man”, Jeremy, Justin, and Eric tuned up and let loose. With a voice that’s a combination of “Fergie and Jesus”, Jeremy had the crowd going in no time at all, smiling and swaying as a the group played its poppy, dance-inducing music. After an hour of some of the best songs these ears have heard (and a pretty kick-a medley) the band packed up and the crowd unhappily dispersed. Over all, Pitt Underground gives it a big thumbs up for this performance.
